This year, something very unexpected happened to my family. Something that completely changed our lives and turned my entire world upside down.
I will never forget the call I got from my mom telling me my childhood home had caught on fire with my dad and dog inside.
There was a pretty bad storm in my hometown. Lightening struck my house while my dad was asleep. It took several hours before the flames took over.
The miraculous thing about it is my dog, Scout, jumped on my dad three times before he woke up and realized what was happening.
My dad thankfully got out with nothing but Scout, his wallet, and his car keys. And yes, Scout got a juicy steak for dinner because of her efforts!
The fire could have caused less damage, but the firetruck got stuck in a ditch while responding to the call, and had to wait for 30 minutes to get a tow-truck..
Not only that, but that same night, several other houses in north Mississippi caught on fire because of lightening, landing them and my dad on the news.
Prior to our house catching fire, the same thing happened to a family in Jackson.
Thankfully, this family also survived with no injuries.
The way animals react to fires don’t get near enough credit. Here are a few furry companions I believe deserve an extra pat on the back..
Thankful everyone survived. Special thank you to these pups and firemen who keep us safe!
